Gemma is a talented and creative individual who thrives on the challenge of creating new and exciting projects that reflect her outgoing and charismatic personality. Gemma has been working regularly with ceramics, amongst other materials, since she was 17; she is currently studying an FdA in Applied Arts at the Plymouth College of Art and Design (PCAD), with the aim of gaining a BA to add to her other qualifications.

Gemma has also worked hard to gain a GNVQ in ceramics, photography, graphics and fine art drawing. Coupling this with her A levels in similar subjects including ceramics, photography, historical and contemporary references and fine art drawing; it makes quite an achievement. Gemma wishes to use these qualifications to eventually become a professional ceramicist and hopefully a teacher in the same field.

Gemma currently resides in St. Ives, a colourful seaside resort in Cornwall. In her spare time, Gemma likes to go for long walks around the landscape, making drawings and taking in the beauty of her surroundings as possible inspirations for her work. As well as the landscape, Gemma also enjoys taking inspiration from various fashion magazines for both their use of colour and innovative styles of advertisement.

Gemma takes inspiration from a wide-range of different artists from various mediums; she enjoys the work of Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet in the way they express themselves and tells story within a picture - something that Gemma practises frequently in her own artwork. Josiah Wedgwood and Kate Malone are also further direct influences on her ceramic work, and Gemma emphasises specifically how she admires Malone's scale of ceramics and Wedgwood's pioneering of glazes.

As you can see from Gemma's artwork section of this website, she is also creatively influenced by both the oriental styles of art, incorporating dragon heads etc. into her work, and Aboriginal art, particularly in such items as her Aborigine-design storage pot. Hopefully this website has given you a better understanding of Gemma's life and work; if you do wish to contact her to ask a question, purchase any of her work or help with any career prospects, please use the e-mail address below.
